The area is surrounded by world class fishing and water sports activites. The Beartooth Mountains have the highest concentrations of pristine alpine lakes in the world, and the famous Clark's Fork River, designated one of the few "wild and scenic" rivers in the country, is just a few short miles from the Cooke City area. Be catching fish in Yellowstone's popular blue ribbon trout streams, the Lamar River and Slough Creek within a few short minutes. Licenses are sold locally; guided fishing trips and tackle are available from local outfitters.
Mountain trails provide close access to numerous lakes containing both Brook and Cutthroat trout. Lakes in the area include: Abundance, Round Ovis, Mutt, Jeff, Long, Star and Goose. Walks of a few yards to several miles are available throughout the area. A copy of the Cooke City Quadrangle Topographic Map is a must. Do not leave the designated OHV trail or adjacent parking/camping area with your vehicle.
Visit near-by Gardiner, Montana for whitewater rafting opportunities; kayak the awesome Clark's Fork River; canoe the pristine mountain lakes of the Beartooth's; the Cooke City area is truly a water sports wonderland.
