Cross Country Skiing Around Yellowstone NAtional Park

It's been said that the only winter activity in the Cooke City, Colter Pass and the Silver Gate area is snowmobiling.  Nothing could be further from the truth!  You can cross country ski right from your front door.  The only decision you have to make is which direction you want to go.

The area is a special place, offering any skill level of cross-country skier lots of space, quiet serenity and a beautiful place to traverse the land. Learn a new sport or challenge even the most extreme, expert cross-country skiers.

Head east from Cooke City to Silver Gate and enjoy the Historic Bannock Trail*.  Keep going and head on into Yellowstone National Park towards Warm Creek.

Go west from Silver Gate towards Cooke City and take the Bannock Trail* into town.  Keep heading west out of town on a trail, which is shared with snowmobiles or go off trail and find your own way.

*The condition of the Bannock Trail is dependent on the depth of snow and spring weather conditions. Please call ahead if you want to know the condition of the trail.
